Meet the current members of our OR&S Research Group.

Mario Vanhoucke

Mario Vanhoucke is a Professor of Business Management and Operations Research at Ghent University (Belgium), Vlerick Business School (Belgium, Russia, China) and University College London (UK). He has a PhD in Operations Management from the University of Leuven (Belgium) and a Master's degree in Business Engineering from the University of Leuven (Belgium). He teaches Project Management, Business Statistics, Decision Sciences for Business and Applied Operations Research.

His main research interest lies in the integration of project scheduling, risk management and project control using combinatorial optimization models. He is an advisor for several PhD projects, has published papers in various international publications and is the author of three project management books published by Springer.

Mario Vanhoucke has been the founding member and Director of the EVM Europe Association (2009 - 2017). He is also a partner in the company OR-AS which has released a commercial project management software tool ProTrack 3.0 as well as a research PM software engine P2 Engine. He also works on an online learning tool PM Knowledge Center

Broos Maenhout

Broos Maenhout is a Professor of Business Management and Operations Research at Ghent University (Belgium). He has a PhD in Operations Management, a Master's degree in Commercial Engineering and a Master's degree in Operations and Technology Management from Ghent University (Belgium). He teaches Operations Research and gives guest lectures in the course Applied Operations Research.

His main research interest lies in workforce staffing and planning and in the integration of personnel rostering and project scheduling using combinatorial optimization models. He has published several papers on the well-known nurse scheduling problem in international journals and is an active speaker at conferences. He is currently working on a research project focusing on the integration of ward budgeting, shift scheduling, patient scheduling and personnel rostering in the health care sector.

José Coelho

José Coelho is a Professor of Operations Research and Management Science at Universidade Aberta (Lisbon, Portugal) and INESC Technology and Science (INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal) and has collaborations with Mario Vanhoucke that date back to 2001. They have created a network generator RanGen 2 and have solved various resource-constrained project scheduling problems using the integration of a metaheuritic search and a Boolean satisfiability problem solver.

Jeroen Burgelman

Jeroen Burgelman is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at Ghent University and has joined the OR&S group in 2014. 

His research interest lies in the optimization and the integration of risk management and project control.

Annelies Martens

Annelies Martens is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). She obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2014. 

Her research interest lies in the optimization and the integration of risk management and project control.

Tom Servranckx

Tom Servranckx is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2015. 

His research interest lies in the optimization of project baseline schedules, and the integration with project control.

Mick Van den Eeckhout

Mick Van den Eeckhout is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2015. 

His research interest lies in the optimization of project planning and personnel staffing.

Jérome Bridelance

Jérome Bridelance is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2016. 

His research interest lies in multi-project planning and investigates resource dedication and resource sharing policies to optimise project portfolio objectives.

Rob Van Eynde

Rob Van Eynde is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2017.

Jakob Snauwaert

Jakob Snauwaert is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Business Engineering at UGent and has joined the OR&S group in 2017.

Weikang Guo

Weikang GUO is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). She obtained a Master's degree in Software Engineering at Chongqing University(P. R. China) and has joined the OR&S group in 2017. Her research interest lies in the optimization of project baseline schedules, and the integration with risk analysis and project control.

Izel Unsal

İzel Ünsal is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). She obtained a Master's degree in Building Science/Construction Management in METU (Turkey) and has joined the OR&S group in 2017. Her research interest lies in the optimization of project baseline schedules, schedule simulations and project control in construction projects.

Jingyu Luo

Jingyu Luo is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). He obtained a Master's degree in Systems Engineering at Shenyang Jianzhu University and has joined the OR&S group in 2017. His research interest lies in the optimization of project earned value under Resource/Capital constraint, and some other uncertain circumstances.

Jie Song

Jie Song is a research assistant at the Operations Management group of the faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University (Belgium). She obtained a Master's degree in Western Economics at Northwestern Polytechnical University and has joined the OR&S group in 2017.
